Just Eat appoints Fernando Fanton as Chief Product and Technology Officer

Just Eat, the world’s leading digital marketplace for takeaway food delivery, has appointed Fernando Fanton as Chief Product and Technology Officer. Fernando will replace Carlos Morgado, who is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities after seven years in the role.

Fernando has a background in technology and business strategy with experience spanning start-ups, corporate positions and consulting roles.

After co-founding a technology start-up and graduating with a computer science degree, Fernando joined Microsoft in its Redmond headquarters where he stayed for 6 years. He left Microsoft to undertake an MBA at Wharton Business School and joined McKinsey & Co as a consultant.

He joined Elsevier in New York from 2012 as Head of Technology Strategy and, starting in 2013, led Mendeley.com in London as Head of Product and Technology. He will join the business on 21 March 2016 and will become a member of the Executive Committee.

Fernando expressed his enthusiasm for his new role, saying:

“I am hugely excited to be joining Just Eat. It is a company I have admired for some time and I am looking forward to contributing to the next stage of its development.”

Chief executive David Buttress also voiced his excitement, commenting:

“I am delighted to welcome Fernando to Just Eat. His range of experience and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to grow our business and seize the opportunities offered by technology to empower consumers and our restaurant partners.

“I would also like to thank Carlos for his tireless work over the past seven years. He has played an incredible role in helping shape our business and his contribution has been invaluable. I wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Fernando will start his new role at the end of March.
