Just Eat Chairman scoops top tech award

We’re proud to announce that our Chairman, John Hughes CBE, has been named ‘Tech personality of the year’ at the prestigious UK tech awards 2015.

The awards – billed as the ‘technology event of the year’ – were held at London’s Park Plaza Hotel and were attended by the UK’s top tech entrepreneurs – as well as CEOs and FDs of some of the world’s fastest-growing tech companies.

John joined Just Eat in 2011 as Company Director – bringing with him over 30 years’ experience leading complex technology businesses operating at a global level. As well as Just Eat, he also serves as Chairman of the Board for Spectris plc, is Executive Chairman of TelecityGroup plc, and was awarded the CBE for services to international telecommunications in the Queen’s 2011 New Year Honours List. John was granted an honorary doctorate of science by the University of Hertfordshire in 2014, and is also an ambassador for the Alzheimer's Society.

Commenting on his award, John said:

"I’m honoured and humbled to be named tech personality of the year. I’m sure my position with JUST EAT played no small part due to the strong reputation the company has for tech excellence – both among its peers and within the wider tech industry – and I am delighted that the award gives this due recognition. I’d like to thank the whole JUST EAT team for their support over the past year."

Commenting on the calibre of this year’s winners, Jass Sarai – UK technology leader at tech awards sponsors PwC – said:

"The winners showcase the fantastic companies we have within the UK tech sector. It’s extremely pleasing to see so many thriving private and public companies who are truly innovating and contributing to the UK tech sector and wider business community."

We’d like to take the opportunity to congratulate John on this tremendous achievement on behalf of everyone at Just Eat.
