Just Eat launches first takeaway tasting menu in time for Valentine’s Day

Just Eat, a leading global marketplace for online food delivery, has partnered with award-winning online gourmet restaurant EatFirst, to launch an exclusive five-course tasting menu available for delivery in time for Valentine’s Day. The Italian inspired menu comes at an affordable £35 for two people.

The takeaway tasting menu, a first for Just Eat and EatFirst, was created by head chef Benn Hodges, previously of The Ivy and Roka. The delicious feast starts with a tomato & mozzarella salad served with grilled rosemary and sea salt focaccia followed by a specially created duck ragu pappardelle, a crispy and fresh butternut squash salad, succulent flat iron steak and a rich flourless chocolate cake to finish. Each course is freshly prepared and blast chilled to lock in the flavours. On delivery, you simply follow the chef’s reheating instructions between courses and enjoy a romantic evening at home.

The meal offers exceptional value – there is the option to add red or white wine pairings to the order, but even this is less that than the average individual spend on Valentine’s Day, which Just Eat research has found is £47.57. The takeaway tasting menu is available in London now until Wednesday 15th February.

Launched in August 2014, EatFirst is a chef driven food delivery service that won Best Takeaway in North London at the 2016 British Takeaway Awards, in association with Just Eat. There is no physical restaurant, however the team work in a full-service professional kitchen environment. All EatFirst recipes have been developed by leading chefs and are freshly prepared under the watchful eye of head chef, Benn Hodges.

Tomato and Mozzarella Salad (new) – £7.95

Buffalo Burrata A fresh classic of heirloom tomatoes, black olives, creamy buffalo burrata, micro Italian basil and rocket. Dressed with extra virgin olive oil infused with vanilla, lemon zest, and basil. Served with grilled rosemary and sea salt focaccia.

Primi Paitta

Duck Ragu Pappardelle (new) – £8.95

Devonshire ducks are marinated in red wine, carrot, celery, bay leaves and garlic, and scented with juniper berries and star anise. Braised overnight with virgin Sicilian green olives, this is served with handmade pappardelle pasta and finished with parmesan, parsley and green olives.

Squash Salad – £5.95

Butternut squash is marinated in thyme & garlic, seared and roasted. The endives’ slightly bitter flavour is sweetened with a tomato jam. The dressing, served on the side to give you a choice, is made with extra virgin rapeseed oil, rich in omega 3 and 40% less fat than olive oil.

Secondi Paitta

Flat Iron Steak – £9.95

Aged flat iron steak is marinated in pepper and ginger, chargrilled and served pink. On the side is a fresh baby spinach and sesame salad and a mix of pickled vegetables.


Flourless Chocolate Cake – £3.95

70% dark chocolate makes up the rich base of this indulgent dessert, served paired with a light vanilla custard.

Chateaux Fayau Bordeaux £9.95 (375ml) (new)

Selected by our sommelier at Bottle Apostle, Château Fayau is an unoaked blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Grapes were hand harvested from 8 hectares of 25-year-old vines situated on the slopes of Cadillac where the soil is a mixture of clay and chalk. The wine is fresh, vibrant, and bursting with plum and raspberry flavours which work perfectly with rich meats and chocolate puddings.

Chablis Domain du Colombier £11.95 (375ml) (new)

About EatFirst Head Chef Benn Hodges

After completing a five-year apprenticeship in Australia, where Benn studied under a variety of chefs, including Michelin-starred Middle Eastern food pioneer Greg Malouf, Benn worked in a variety of fine restaurants including the 3-hat (Australian equivalent of Michelin stars) restaurant The Buffalo Club and was recognised in 2010 as ‘Chef of the Year’ by the Australian Hotel Association. After moving to London in 2011, Benn worked at The Club at The Ivy, gaining invaluable experience at this London institution before following his passion for Asian food ultimately to Roka, where he worked as Senior Sous Chef at the Michelin-starred flagship Charlotte Street branch. Benn was appointed Head Chef at EatFirst in January 2016.
