Just Eat UK saves NHS staff £250,000 with new discount
Tens of Thousands of NHS staff across the UK have saved a combined £250,000 in just one week, after Just Eat introduced a discount for healthcare workers tackling coronavirus.
As the leading food delivery business in the UK, Just Eat launched the discount as a way of saying thank you and to show appreciation for the extraordinary work of the NHS.
The discount, which is funded entirely by Just Eat, entitles NHS and Northern Ireland’s HSC workers 25% off every day.
Since it was introduced last week, it's been an immediate hit. Tens of thousands of doctors, nurses, paramedics and healthcare workers across the country have had hot meals delivered for themselves, colleagues or their families.
Andrew Kenny, UK Managing Director Just Eat said:
"We’re humbled by the overwhelming take-up of our discount, and pleased to see that this small gesture is making a significant impact for NHS staff and their families.
"The overriding sense of community spirit over the last few weeks has been inspiring. Like each and every person playing their part in the national effort - be it by staying at home, or working on the front line - we're committed to doing our bit in the fight against coronavirus. We are continually developing initiatives to support the heroes who are keeping this country going, and the most vulnerable who need help more than ever right now.”
In addition to discounted meals for healthcare workers, Just Eat is providing financial assistance for food delivery couriers who are unable to work due to self-isolation or falling ill as a result of coronavirus.
The food delivery app has also put in place a £10m emergency support package to assist small independent restaurants, to help them keep the business running and support their staff.
