Menulog reveals Aussies’ pizza preferences ahead of World Pizza Day

Nothing has divided our nation’s foodies more than a heated debate about whether pineapple has a place on pizza.

However, new research from Menulog shows times and taste buds are changing, with olive the top topping to be removed from pizzas, and pineapple the most popular addition requested among pizza-loving, Menulog-ordering Australians last year.

With 3.6 million pizzas ordered via Menulog across the country in 2019, the data has also revealed which pizza reigns supreme... and it’s not Supreme. Margherita has come out on top as the most popular type of pizza across the nation (13.4%), followed closely by Meatlovers (13.3%) and Hawaiian (12%).

And while Margherita may be the nation’s favourite, we are divided when it comes to state and territory preferences. NSW, ACT and QLD locals prefer topping-packed Supreme pizzas, with Victorians opting for the more simple and traditional Margherita.

Most popular pizzas by state and territory:

  • Supreme in NSW (17%)
  • Margherita in VIC (16%)
  • Supreme in QLD (16%)
  • Hawaiian in SA (15%)
  • Meat Lovers in WA (22%)
  • Pepperoni in TAS (16%)
  • Supreme in ACT (16%)
  • Meat Lovers in NT (15%)

Top most popular additional pizza toppings:

  1. Pineapple
  2. Anchovies
  3. Mushroom

Top most removed pizza toppings:

  1. Olive
  2. Pineapple
  3. Onion
